"MIKA21 - ALMOST HOME"

This painting tells the story of anyone who has ever entered a new world and wondered if they would ever truly belong.

When I was 10 years old, my parents said we were leaving Taiwan and immigrating to Canada. I was heartbroken to leave my friends behind and terrified because I could barely speak any English.

Those first few years were tough. I was teased for how I looked, the way I spoke, and even the “smelly” food I brought from home. I heard the words “Go back to your country” more times than I could count.

Canada was becoming my home, yet for a long time, I felt caught somewhere in between - I was here, but I was only almost home.

With time, I learned that home is something we build within ourselves. It is the strength we discover each time we refuse to let cruelty define our worth.

If you have ever been bullied, or made to feel as though you did not belong, this painting is for you.

You are not alone.

We stand together, stronger than yesterday, reminding one another that we belong, and we have always been enough.

Perhaps, with every brave step forward, we are already almost home.

"MIKA – THE BOY FROM THE FUTURE"

MIKA is a quiet boy from the future, where emotions are labeled “errors” and carefully regulated like faulty code.

Children are taught to optimize.
To calculate.
To suppress.

Feeling too much is considered inefficient.

When the silence inside him grows unbearable, MIKA escapes into AI simulations. Entire worlds bloom at his command. Cities rise from light. Oceans fold into the sky. Suns flicker on and off like forgotten lamps.

He can build anything.

Except the one thing he truly wants.

Something real enough to feel...

Until one day, the simulation glitches.
Pixels scatter like dust in sunlight.
And from the distortion, a small, chubby pug stumbles forward.

The pug looks up at him as if he has always known him.
The system flags the anomaly immediately.

The world resets.
The pug is gone.

The next simulation loads.
He’s there again with the same soft eyes.

Whenever MIKA feels afraid, the pug stands beside him.
Whenever he feels unsure, the pug nudges him forward.

Hundreds of adventures later, Mika finally discovers...

There was never a glitch.
The pug was never real.
He was the part of MIKA that refused to be deleted.

The warmth, the courage, and the love
MIKA created his imaginary friend.

And sometimes, the bravest companion you ever have,
has been inside you all along.
